Things to look for when buying an old house

Every home we have owned has been built before 1978. I love lead paint, what can I say. This will be a post that I will be updating. Hopefully it will help you not make some of the mistakes we did, by not realizing some of the stuff we should have looked for.

First is the back deck.

Looks like a great area to hang out with the family right? Looks can be deceiving. Because of the deck being attached to the house. Rain was funneled down between the deck boards and the house and rotted the wood. This wouldn’t have been found if we didn’t updated the pier and beam.

So make sure when looking at older homes, you see how the deck is attached to the home and hopefully there are gutters.

After some a lot of cutting with a Skilz Saw and JigSaw. We have a clean slate to figure out what to do next.

About The hipster
About Ryan - For one I never really considered myself a hipster, but most of my suburban Co-worker thought so, I have a beard and glasses. So I ran with it.
